The Star recently printed a rather interesting article that the p2p community would find rather interesting.... heh~ The article featured my favourite torrent site, thepiratebay.org in the technology pullout of the paper, In.Tech and it talks about piracy.

Here are my two cents; it is the existence of piracy that enabled and empowered Malaysia to be what it is today. Without them, our engineers, techies, designers, and business people would be missing a leg, hopping around like a headless chicken. Frankly speaking, not everyone can afford MsWord 2003 or Adobe Photoshop. Seriously. Without piracy our government wouldn't be where it is too.

            Therefore I salute thee, piracy. For such a name is but an irony to the revolution that you bring to the world. Breaking down the greedy, capitalistic, hoarding, illiberal, covetous companies and organizations who refuse to let even a single penny slip past their fingers, sitting behind their comfortable leather chairs, shielding themselves behind the laws of men.

Thank you The Pirate Bay and Xun Lei. Thank you for the bright future you've given cyberspace. It's because of entities like you, we can progress in this exciting digital age.

I dunno if you guys have been able to keep up with the recent world news or not (whether or not you guys read the news is another matter altogether). Nonetheless, one of the rather peculiar may-be-or-may-not-be so interesting news is the the firing of the Large Hadron Collider (i know its tempting to spells it as Hardon). This huge machine with a circumference of 27 kilometres, burried 175 metres underground, will attempt to accelerate sub-atomic particles at the speed of light and collide it with each other in an attempt to produce the Higgs boson

Well, the mass believes that firing this thing off could cause a massive disaster unknown to mankind; creation of Micro Black Holes, Strangelets, Singlets, Boxers etc, etc; which is apparently a big deal for the quantum community. Though it's not proven at all that it'll be a threat but hey, look at what happened to Black Mesa Research Facility. To make matters worse, a fishy picture surfaced on the web about the construction of the LHC.

In other news, I've downloaded google's Chrome which has been buzzing about the news lately. So far, I've quite liked the sleek design which maximizes my view of the page. In terms of speed and stuff, well.. with suxmyx, it's all the same.

Another problem I encountered is when I'm trying to download or upload pictures into photobucket, it becomes quite a pain as a 404 error keep appearing. But well, I guess these things will be sorted out in the future as Chrome is still in Beta.

Nonetheless, when they fully release this guy, I'll be sure to wanna use it.

The holidays is somehow affecting me.. can't pin-point it yet though. In a few ways, I don't feel that dumb as I normally do. Hmmm..

Been looking my life in the past, things I've done, the experiences I've gone through and I've been filtering it all and throwing a few questions around. The truth about life is that no matter what you do, you can't have it all.

You can't still be as close as you used to be towards all your friends if you want to be closer to the new ones.
You can't spend time with everybody and you have to choose which is more important to you; your priorities, responsibilities, friends, family and most importantly - God.

Kinda wish I was superman, able to be close to Louis Lane and yet, still able to save the world. Or in the context of my life, able to be close to all those dear to my heart (and there are many) and yet, still able to serve the people and my God. For me to shift the balance would mean sacrificing a few things and to the few people whom might not understand it all, they might hold it against me.

I do not blame them.

Was having lunch with GerX in Bukit Beruang area when suddenly my mom called. "Son! Faster come to Dewan Sri Negeri now. Can collect the flood funds already!". Good bye lunch. Good bye GerX. Hello soon-to-be-mine-my-family's RM200. heh~ Flew there, entered the hall and now, for the most exciting part of it all...!! waitied.. and waited.. and waited for my-dear-turtle knows how long. After 1 and a half hours, *ka-ching!* show me the money- RM200? Awww.. At least RM200 is better than nothing eh?

Mom was a little happy with the extra cash. Though how little it was, mom celebrated by cooking a very very yummylicious meal of chicken, beef and mutton in curry-satay sauce, egg tofu and mince meat, chinese stir-fry vegetales, and of course, spicy soup. Ahhh~

Early Friday morning. Dad received a call that carried shockingly devastating news from brother. Un Phillip Goh had just passed away earlier that morning. Dad took emergency leave while mom took early leave and came back in the afternoon. By 2pm we started our journey up to Puchong. We came and helped out what little we could but I guess all that we could really do, is just be there for them. By nightfall, the wake service started and tears streamed down the cheeks of the Goh family. Friends, families, relatives all came. A number of CFers came too to show their support to Grace and Richard. At the end of it all, we were reminded of how easy it is to lose a loved one and how we should cherish what we have; be grateful to God for what He has given us.

Sunday night LAN party

On Sunday night, after finishing my final paper I went to the LAN party at Elijah's crib. The event was organized by VJ and he did a rather good job for an amateur. Many CFers came and we played various games ranging from the good ol' Quake III Arena, to the classical Counter-Strike, the now-getting-uber-boring Warcraft III DOTA and the seldom played Alien vs Predator 2. Stef was kind enough to bring her Playstation 2 so people who aren't really PC fans can also enjoy themselves getting a whoop-ass from Stef in DOA and other fighting games. heh~ Played till 4am in the morning, went out for some dim-sum and head home. It's all gooooood~

During the hair-pulling long blackout that strike my taman, I got bored. So I fed the family pets, and took a long video recording of my family python, Trial attacking and eating a very cute mousy. It's fun watching him strike its prey and swallow it whole. It's like having Animal Planet or Nat Geo right in front of your eyes. Crikey! That night I found a picture I have never seen before in my entire life; a picture of my brother and I when we were kids. Aren't I cute?

Recently got my wives back too. All thanks to Kok Wei who so happened to be around after a holiday in Genting. If he wasn't at home, I wouldn't be able to see my wife till the new semester starts and that makes me sad sad. So I bought them presents. New straps for the electric and semi-acoustic, and new strings for the semi-acoustic and acoustic. I changed the strings of the acoustic too so that when I start the guitar class next semester, people will find it easier to press the strings. Get ready Paddlepoppers (and others).

Went to KL on Thursday afternoon after brother gave the go ahead that his contact in Low Yat can get the exact specs I wanted for the computer. Took the 2.30pm Transnational bus and I must say, of all the trips I've taken across states, this bus driver has to be the most slacker and reckless of them all. SMSing and talking on the phone will driving, eating and reading magazine WHILE driving, and the most annoying was singing SUPER loud while driving. But it's quite funny to watch him do all those things though. heh~

After a night at the Goh's residence, I came back yesterday with a very broad and wide smile on my face. Finally, my very own first PC. I feel.. so.. touched.. not by M.J. though.. that would be just weird and stuff. *long pause...* Okay, back to the PC. Though the price fetches a 4k, it's still much cheaper than what I could've gotten on my own. Through bro's contact I got everything seriously cheaper than I expected. I was especially surprise with the price of the graphic card. To end this really unnecessarily long post, I'm gonna lay down the relevant specs and price of my new PC.

Yay~ It is fixed. See, FIXED. Muahahahahaa~

Unfortunately, the connection seems to really suck, and I mean really.. suck. Initially I thought it was just me and my lil' house having this problem. Ya' know, the old, "Life-hates-me-so-much-it-took-my-connection-away" thing. But after much meditation (and studying), I hear cries of other innocent victims of these bad-connections. Remember Suxmyx^®? While some haplessly whither to the ground, powerless, others took up the fight and started talking about suing tmnet and stuff.. *ahem* So basically, connection sucks and so does life. Wait, life rawks mann. I mean life is like, really really good. It's the honey on the grilled chicken. It's the zero-fat chocolate. It's.. it's good. Yea~

At least I did somehow manage to fix my blog. It runs pretty well on Firefox in 1024x768 resolution and I'm happy.. for now. Hehe~ Nite peeps~

I dunno whether it's me or it's the food that I'm eating or whatever, after NOC4 was over, a lot of weird things are happening. Seriously. I know I'm gonna sound like some hippie who's high on crack but,

"dudeee.. i think there's a conspiracy going on mannn.. *sniff* yea, the government is using some kinda weird mind-stealer-controller machine tha..that makes us think that our bro..broah.. uhh.. broadband connect thingies are running normal but nooooo. I nuh.. noe their secrets mannn.. dudeeee~ you gotta believe me ma- oh..oh no~ they've fuh-found me gotta run.."

Okay, I'm not crazy so you can put the phone down know. There's no need to call the police and all.. *whisper* they're watching us~ *whisper*

Seriously, broadband connection is soooo bad mann~

You know how when that little LED under the DSL word blinks, it means that there's no connection or there's something wrong with you connection right?

Guess what? I found a solution to that problem.

I pick up my house phone.. leave it be for a minute or so and wallah~ little LED doesn't blink anymore and I have my connection back. Now all I've gotta do is to present this as my FYP title and convince everyone to buy the idea.

The perfect tag-line for my idea,

A word of advice: never trust a computer. Seriously. I mean, just look at at psycho A.I. SkyNet. We gave it our trust handed the safety of our family and our nation to it and what did it do? Attack puny humans and send Terminators back in time. *sigh* Things like these just gives us bad experiences.. just like the first time you had constipation. "yes sir, I've checked our computers and it says your area has streamyx". Note the "our computers". There's something evil going on I tell ya.

But back then we were still uncertain if it would work or not. As skeptical as we may be, there was a shimmer of hope left in us. 5 days after re-registering, the technician came to test out our connection. We held our breath in anticipation. After 10 minutes, the man was still working on the same line. A sudden de-ja-vu flashed in our minds. We knew the out come of it even before the man was finish. Not wanting to waste time, I went to the kitchen to sharpen my cleaver. True enough, there was no broadband line - and I had to bury another corpse.

2 years later

Dad came home one day all excited saying that our taman has broadband. As convincing as he sounded, we didn't believe him. After having gone through all those years of physical and emotional torture, we knew better than to trust those words. We demanded proof of our father's claim. He said that another family in our row of houses has already installed streamyx and is using it. "Nah~ It can't be real~" we told ourselves. Dad said we would dig deeper into this and tried not to increase the body-count.

Just days after dad's broadband claim, a man called the house saying that our taman has streamyx. Being the nice person I am, I resisted the urge to curse and swear before slamming down the phone. We discussed and set the date where he will come to.. well, 'install' streamyx. I sharpened my cleaver in preparation of that day to come. Bro helped too. That day came sooner than expected and we were very excited about who's gonna get buried later. A wira parked in front of our house and a young man came out from the car. He introduced himself as a technician for streamyx and went on to check our line. I stood behind him with my cleaver ready to swing his head off his body. 5 minutes went on and he stood up and said, "All done~". "All done? What do you mean all done?", I asked almost revealing the cleaver hidden behind my back. Puzzled by our question he replied, "Well, done as in, you can use streamyx now. You have broadband~"

We couldn't believe our ears. Is it true that the day of broadband in the house of Liu has finally come? It must be a dream! It's definitely a scam! I should just chop him up into pieces and give his left-overs to the dogs. We tested the raw power of broadband, opened up a blank webpage and typed in http://www.goblogblog.blogspot.com and in an instant the whole page appeared before us. It is true. We finally have broadband in our home.. and I'm getting too emotional. Finally, we can do the things we've always wanted to do.

But after having this 'gift', I realize that nothing much has change. I still dunno what to do. All the anticipation that accumulated out of all those years, boiled down to this? Disappointing indeed. We have streamyx and we dunno what to do with it. So much for the hype. This sucks~

| story of the streamyx : the beginning

I remember there was once upon a time.. A young chap rang my door bell in the middle of a bright sunny afternoon. "Hi", he said. "Are you interested in having broadband services?". Ahhh.. yes~ Broadband. Those magic words rang in all our ears. After hearing the news that our taman is finally able to have a Streamyx connection, the house was in the celebration mood. We eagerly filled in the forms and set the appointment dates, counting down every single day.

Alas, the day had come. Smiling from ear to ear, we greeted the fellow technician that's standing in front the outer gates. We even gave him a cup of cola as he set up his equipment. But something was amiss. There was no response from him even after 10 minutes of playing with the main phoneline. We were anxious and worried, like soon-to-be parents. "Hmm.. wait arrr, I call my superior". Oh no~ Is there something wrong? Did we forget to pay the bill? I've already dispose of those bodies. Our thoughts we filled with worries and it got worse when he said 'problem' over the phone. "Umm.. is there a problem ah?", my dad asked. "I don't know how to tell you this but.. your baby didn't make it." "What?". "*cough*, I mean arrr, yorr fone-lyne bo signal".

*crashing sound*

Despair and sadness filled our hearts as our world tumbled into a void of darkness. Devastated.. Utterly devastated. "Sowee for yor loss". We looked to him with blank eyes. "Ehh.. can I go now arr?". Our mind were shouting foul and filth but mouths just couldn't bring it out - we could only think of one thing.. "*nervous* Ermm.. excuse me arrr, can yu plees oben de gate? *swallow*". In our minds, his words are like drops of water in the middle of the ocean, crushed by the might waves. "Wha-? NOOooooooooooo... *silence*". We took whatever juicy parts of him that we can and disposed the rest.

It was like any other day. The horrific incident that we went through last year has been well put aside in our hearts. But wait, what is this? A streamyx banner? I couldn't read well but I think it says something like 'YOUR TAMAN GOT STREAMYX LIAO! FASTER APPLY!'. Though I was still skeptical about this so-called informative banner, I told my family about it. We called up the tmNet centre the reply we got was, "yes sir, I've checked our computers and it says your area has streamyx". The void of the 'Last Year Incident' were filled with this tiny ray of hope that came from a sweet lady. But I guess, luck, was never on our side..
